“And now we welcome the new [school] year, full of things that have never been” – Rainer Maria Rilke

Well I’m sitting here trying to become tired because I know 5:00am is going to come rather quickly. I’m experiencing a wide range of emotions right now. I’m a little sad to be leaving because the 4 weeks that I was home flew by much faster than I expected them to. However, the fact that I’m going to be having my very own class and my very own group of students makes me beyond excited! I’m also pretty excited to get going on my next adventure.

With that being said, I’m also feeling nervous – very nervous! I’m feeling extremely unprepared. I haven’t been able to lesson plan a whole lot because I’m not sure about the resources that will be available to me. I've also never planned for an entire year before - actually an entire year for two grades for that matter! I’m also nervous that I won’t have very long to set up my classroom. But I’m confident that when I get there everything will fall into place. And I’m sure other teachers will help me – that’s the great thing about this profession!

Before I head up to North Spirit Lake I will be going to Sioux Lookout for 4 days. While there I will be attending a numeracy and literacy conference. I’m really looking forward to this conference! I’m excited to learn some new things, receive new strategies, get some resources, and also network with other teachers in the same Band as me. I also hear that Sioux Lookout is gorgeous and from the internet my hotel looks as though it’s situated in a beautiful location.

I leave Toronto airport at 8:40am tomorrow morning and get into Sioux Lookout about 11:40am. Sioux Lookout (as well as North Spirit Lake) is one hour behind Southern Ontario.

Right now I’m not sure about phone or internet access so I will send an update when I can. I’m hoping that I’ll be able to update this blog with a post once a week, but for the first few weeks I might be pretty busy. So that means please don’t be upset if the posts aren't very detailed for the first few weeks! I’m going to be very busy lesson planning, starting the school year, and settling into the community. So please bear with me!
